Cactus Rose

I snapped an image with my iPhone yesterday and posted it on Instagram asking, "Is it finished?" Once of my biggest issues when painting is knowing when to walk away. I have learned over the years that if I have that question, walk away then return to reassess. What's your take on the subject?

The lower flower was the subject of my question. One commenter said she thought that leaving part of a painting a little unfinished is a good thing. I decided to take her suggestion and run with it. I may do it more often if the compulsion to paint more can be controlled.

I worked mainly in watercolor but went back and added some light details in gouache here and there.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend. We'll be enjoying this ridiculously warm weather - making homemade margarita pizzas tonight, catching up on Blacklist while enjoying a glass of wine. (Translation: I'll obsess over the homemade margarita pizza, binge watch Blacklist while enjoying more than one glass of wine. wink. wink.)

Get out and enjoy the beautiful weather if you can. Read a good book if you can't. Or both. I think both  options sound absolutely splendid...along with binge watching Blacklist and enjoying wine.
