This little sketch called “Happy Moo-nday” was my 9th entry for The 100 Day Project. I really love this little fella and truth be told, it’s been a dream of mine for some time now to paint a cow. Not paint a COW but PAINT a cow. Big painting. Of a cow. Gotta work my way into that one. LOTS of practice to be had first.

So I returned to painting on a small scale which, btw, is a fantastic way to explore new techniques and materials without feeling threatened. This time, I wanted to work with opaques (acrylics and gouache). For the one below, I began with a grayish base of acrylic then after a quick paintbrush sketch, added gouache.

This is my (almost) finished Instagram pic.

I worked in a little watercolor and back to opaque gouache to finish. After sitting on it a day or so, I decided it needed another little green sprig to balance out the left side. So…

I added it and was so freaking happy with the result! Now I’m going to be the crazy opaque painting lady.

NOTE: This little puppy is now available for purchase here.

  • Lori, this is so lovely.
It just looks so much like spring to me, and I love the colors you used.
I am quite sure I could not Paint a cow, but I secretly would love to have a cow as a pet (shhhh, don’t tell anyone!). Seriously, I think they are one of the sweetest animals.
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!
