Mama Waterstone, who has reached Dr. Mom status and rarely gets sick, is fighting a nasty cold this week and between the sneezing, sniffling, and sewing all she can think about is warm, comforting things. She’s wishing for a big pot of this…

[ a reprint from one of my earlier posts because that, my dear,
is all I am capable of at the moment. ]

Russian Tea

23 oz. unsweetened pineapple juice
23 oz. unsweetened orange juice
8 oz. lemon juice
8 cups strongly brewed unsweetened tea
1 cup of sugar (to taste)
14 whole cloves
2 sticks of cinnamon
I like to heat it in a large pot on the stove to make the entire house smell delicious.

What’s your go-to, nasty cold, comfort food?

  • You poor thing – nothing more miserable then a sick Mama….did you get to watch Glee at least??? It was so awesome…it might make you feel better. XO

  • Hot red jello! Hope you feel better fast! I'm still taking zyrtec every day to combat the ragweed 🙁

  • Sorry to hear you are not well. I am so overwhelmed with everything, the thought of be sick would put me over the edge. I hope you are not feeling like that and can get some rest. Feel better!! (I always like the saltyness of chicken noodle soup with a cold.)

  • Oh my goodness all our crafty friends are under the weather. I just got over a stomach flu, it was not fun.

  • That Russian Tea recipe sounds delicious. I'll have to give it a try. My fav go-to cold/comfort foods are chicken soup and tea with honey and lemon!

  • This has to be devine! The smell must be something else! It would have people saying oh wow what did you bake?! It must be so good thankyou!

  • Thanks for the suggestions! Chicken soup is the best. I went out and got my ingredients for Russian tea. YUM – warmth.

  • Oooh! This sounds yummy! Craig would like it, too. We actually have pineapple juice in the house because Craig was having pina colada-withdrawal after our vacation.

Hope you feel better soon – take good care of yourself.

  • I've always been weary of trying any kind of tea that wasn't sweet tea. I know, typical southerner. Lol. One day I will give the flavored tea a try.

  • That sounds good and healthy! I like homemade chicken soup, tea, and I admit to using Zicam. I use it only at night the first few nights of getting a cold and it usually lessens my cold. I think sleep is the overall best medicine – if you can get extra – hard to do for a busy mom, though.
